One Day, One Way Walks

Wainwright used to use public transport to get around the Lake District and write his guide books and now there is a real 'will' to re energise the local transport network and encourage walkers to use the service to get in to the heart of the fells. The bus service is in fact pretty good and with some imagination there is actually a great choice of linear walks available. I have listed my favourite 10 linear walks and included, within the individual walk descriptions, information on the bus timetables and convenient services. They all start from one of the major centres in the Lakes; Keswick, Windermere or Ambleside. As with all linear walks I have suggested taking the bus at the start of the day so that there is no time pressure to catch 'the last bus' at the end of the walk.
