- A mini Matterhorn in the Pennines
- Great views across to Cross Fell
- Stay in the pretty village of Dufton
The fittest people in the country must live in Dufton. The temptation to take on it short, but unremittingly steep slopes and enjoy the excellent views from the small summit plateau must be so tempting many will do it. It is a great little peak, separated from the main Pennine massif and Brownber Fell by a deep ravine which it appears you could fall directly in to from the summit. The summit area is in itself interesting as, unusually for a Marilyn, there is not a stone to be seen and certainly no sign of a cairn. It is an evening walk for the connoisseur, in particular on a summer’s evening when the views towards the Lake District fells with a setting sun memorable.
Recommend: Do the full crossing of Dufton Fell and visit the pretty little dell to the north
