1363′. It is so tempting to pass Fellbarrow and Low Fell and ignore them, I have done so many times until the ticking desire to complete the Wainwrights led me belatedly to their summits. However they are an enjoyable enjoyable yomp, upgraded to a good walk by the quite excellent views both to the north and west over the Solway Furth but more particularly the wonderful ‘camera ‘ shot looking straight up Buttermere. This is a rarely seen view and one of the best the Lake District can offer, benefiting from both the variety of differing points on the Low Fell ridge and the fact that the altitude is under 1,500 ft.  Apart from the fact that such a height is rarely cloaked in cloud it is a photographer’s truism that many of the best shots of our mountains are taken from ‘subsidiary’ peaks.

Recommend: Walk the ridge from North to South to appreciate the best views.
