Whilst putting together this website I have spent a good deal of time on other web sites and not just walking sites. I have listed below the sites which I believe can add something in addition to what is presently on Where2walk and therefore increase the enjoyment of  the walking experience for visitors.

Local Information

Yorkshire Dales Millenium Trust. A well run, but underfunded, charity which runs or supports many of the best environmental projects In the Yorkshire Dales.

Dalesman. The magazine of the Yorkshire Dales for local people and those interested in what really is going on in the area. There is an informative website as well

Skipton. All about Skipton in one place Skipton Web is the one stop shop for ‘the Gateway to the Dales’

Long Preston. An attractive village in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The website provides an historical context as well as present information.

Settle. A large and attractive market town with plenty to do and see nearby. The site has plenty of useful links and things to do.

Addingham. Between Ilkley & Skipton Addingham sits on the Wharfe with good walks from the village along the river

Wigglesworth. On the fringes of the Forest of Bowland and the Yorkshire Dales Wigglesworth is a great base for exploring the area. A very informative site

Mallerstang. History and conservation are the twin themes in this excellent area for unspoilt walking.

Malham. A comprehensive guide to this very popular walking area with many interesting facts, figures, history and where to stay

The English Lakes. An excellent site with loads of useful information for any visitor to the Lake District

Mad about Mountains. Ann’s love and enthusiasm of all things mountains is reflected in this really informative site

Walking Forum. Says what it does, the walking forum facilitates discussion on all matters that concern or interest the walker. I certainly think it is the best discussion site at the present time.

Peakseekers A photographic guide to a selection of walks and beyond (including Everest Base Camp) written and presented with great enthusiasm

Walk Eryri Walks in Snowdonia written and well presented by a qualified Mountain Guide. I particularly like the mapping on the site

Walking Englishman A true walking enthusiast Mike Brockhurst has now one of the most popular websites out there with walks through the north of England and a great section on long distance ‘trails’.

Striding Edge A diary of Sean’s favourite walks in the Lake District, the photography being particularly impressive and the key feature to the site

Wainwright Wanderings. A highly personal and very interesting selection of walks, with accompanying photos in the North West of England compiled by Dave and Edith Brown

Fat Goat Walks. Mark is based in the North West and has started adding walks on to his site in an entertaining manner

Yorkshire MoorsA collection of the 50 best walks across the Yorkshire Moors from John Rickard someone who clearly knows the area very well
