Castle Howard is one of the best and famous stately homes in England, great to visit but for those who just want to walk around the grounds and only catch glimpses of the great house it is still highly enjoyable. I was surprised by the variety of terrain(manicured gardens, lakeside walking, woods and even some pleasant paths along the ‘great avenue’ and the amount of interesting historical ‘out houses’ to see. The Pyramid, the Mausoleum, the Gate House and Obelisk are just some of the buildings that are on the route with good paths adjoining them all. There is so much more to see and it is a pleasure getting so close without the crowds and without having to break the bank.

Recommend: Coneysthorpe is a very attractive estate village and worth a closer look at
