Rievaulx must be one of the most sort after locations in the country to live. Riveaulx Abbey has some of the most spectacular remains of any Cistercian abbey, possibly only the remains of Fountains Abbey are better preserved, and it would be remiss not to have a wonder and try and imagine what it would have been like to live and work here before Henry viii took matters in to his own hands. The walk itself passes through the village of Rievaulx and the woods on the far side of the River Rye which does all add to the experience and provides some differing views of the abbey remains.

Recommend: There is nowhere to park aside from the Rievaulx Abbey car park but the fee is deducted if you visit the Abbey itself. It is £5.80 per adult and £3,20 per child – free for members of English Heritage.
