A reversal of one of the best sections of the Coast to Coast this high level walk is a roller coaster of barren wasted moors interspersed with deep cut river beds and industrial ruins. Lead mining was big here in the 19th century and much still remains which makes the walk even more enjoyable and interesting. There are many different pathways over the top and striking out in a generally easterly directions does mean it is difficult to get lost even when the clouds are down. It is a real favourite of mine but only possible with 2 cars or the help of the bus service – long may that continue.

Recommend: Read up on the lead mining industry and try and visit the museum in Reeth before taking to the moors on this walk

Transport: Bus no 30 leaves Reeth at 9.54 arriving at Keld near 1 hour later. The service is though under review due to cuts
