Middleham to Masham via Jervaulx AbbeyD123
- Bus from Masham to Middleham
- Clings to the pretty River Ure
- Castles, abbeys and country houses
The various ages of history are encountered on a 8 mile walk along the River Ure. Ancient abbey ruins at Jervaulx, a splendid castle at Middleham and some grand old country houses contrast with the bustle of Masham market and the peace of the riverside to create a walk that is full of interest and certainly took me longer than I thought (there is so much to see and do). Leave a day, have lunch at the tea room at Jervaulx Abbey and spend the night in the lovely market town of Masham.
Recommend: The two best times for this walk are High Summer or better still when the snow lies on the ground
Transport: The 159 leaves Masham square at 10.03 and then every 2 hours (1210 is the best service on Sunday) taking 20 minutes to Middleham.
