Skipton to Grassington via Embsay MoorD126
- One Way from Skipton to Grassington
- Passing over the Embsay Moor
- Views over Wharfedale and the heart of the Dales
Embsay Moor can be a little bleak on a wet day in November but actually it offers some lovely walking, full of interest and long enough to really give the feeling of a good day out. From the reservoir at Embsay the path climbs on to the moors before skirting the tops of the western escarpment passing Rylstone Cross, Cracoe Monument and for those, like myself, who like peak bagging passing the Marilyn of Thorpe Fell. Dropping off Thorpe Fell towards Grassington is extremely satisfying with Upper Wharfedale spread out to the north and lower Wharfedale to the east whilst the twin villages of Litton & Thorpe are so typically Dalesish.
Recommend: Unusually for a one way walk I strongly suggest that the walk is done from Skipton to Grassington, returning by bus from Grassington. The main reason is that the walk is much better this way with views in to the Dales as opposed to away from them but also because the last bus is at 10 to 6 which gives plenty of time to arrive in Grassington and look around/have a cuppa/pint with little fear of missing the last bus!
Transport: The 72 leaves Grassington for Skipton every hour till 17.51 and takes 1/2 an hour
