Villages of Wharfedale

- Four delightful Dales villages
- Linton Falls & the River Wharfe
- Combines river paths & quiet lanes
The bonus of this walk is that the section of the Dales Way that follows the River Wharfe from Burnsall to Low Mill Cottage shy of Grassington is a real pleasure. The four villages of Burnsall, Hebden, Thorpe and Linton I knew as classic Dales villages of differing size and facilities but I was a little unsure how to combine them to give a walk of contrasts and continual interest. However once I had walked the river bank that had to be included and then it was a question of finding an alternative route back through Linton and Thorpe. Grassington can easily be included on this walk but actually I prefer starting at the other end, at Burnsall, but a start from Grassington is certainly possible – all I would suggest is that the four villages are included in any route. I gave myself extra time on the walk so that I could poke around each village; Hebdon is my favourite of the four (but lacks a pub) although Burnsall is a really special village tucked in to a bend on the river and rightly has created for itself an impressive reputation within the Dales and beyond.
Recommend: Include Hebden even though it is 1/2 a mile off the route but return back to the river bank and do not try and go cross country towards Grassington.

| Start Point: | 032613. I parked near the church and walked down to the river. There are always places to park in or just outside Burnsall even when it is busy. |
| Terrain: | Clear throughout except the muddy route out of Linton. |
| Eating & Drinking: | A connoisseur's delight! The Old School tea house in Hebden is a must, the Fountain Arms in Linton is a nice pub at the halfway point and there is endless choices in Burnsall and if you visit Grassington. |
