- Four delightful Dales villages
- Linton Falls & the River Wharfe
- Combines river paths & quiet lanes
The real pleasure of this walk is that the section of the Dales Way that follows the River Wharfe from Burnsall to Low Mill Cottage, just short of Grassington, is one of the most pleasant sections of riverside walking in the Dales. Unsure how to combine the varied but attractive four villages of Burnsall, Hebden, Thorpe and Linton with the riverside walking turned in to less of a challenge than expected. On completing the riverside walking it was a simple question of finding an alternative route back through Linton and Thorpe. Grassington can easily be included on this walk but actually I prefer starting at the other end, at Burnsall (both starts are possible) with all I would recommend being that the four villages are included.
I gave myself extra time on the walk so that I could explre each village; Hebdon is my favourite of the four although Burnsall is a really special village tucked in to a bend on the river and rightly has created for itself an impressive reputation within the Dales and beyond.
Recommend: Watch out for the stepping stones near Linton Church – the middle one is missing (14 March 2013) so it is either a wetting or the diversion to the Falls along the northern bank.
