- Typical Dales moorland scenery
- Easy access from Skipton
- Commanding views across the Aire valley
Living near Skipton and working in the town, the high land of Skipton Moor which dominates the east end of the town and creates a lovely backdrop to it is a very familiar sight to me. Furthermore the moor is wonderfully accessible with Shortbank Road turning in to a bridleway only 1/2 a mile from the centre of Skipton (reminiscent, somewhat tentatively, on how the Pyramids appear suddenly from a Cairo street!). The gorse bushes in bloom were fantastic when I passed in May and, somewhat fortuitously, it was dry underfoot as I suspect much of the walk would be a mite squelchy otherwise. A great winter walk when there is a covering of snow though… Geologists are much taken by the quarrying on Jenny’s Gill, a fine example of sandstone beds amongst the 20 metre Millstone Grit wall whilst just below the quarry is a series of well worn tracks through the trees much loved by mountain bikers.
Recommend: Start and finish in the town centre.

| Start Point: | 003511. Park at the end of Shortbank Road where the bridleway starts and climb up the initially steep bridleway till Jenny Gill. However the best bet is to forget the car and start from the centre of Skipton. |
| Terrain: | There is a myriad of tracks on the moor, some of which can become very muddy. However you cannot go far wrong if you head to the high ground from Jenny Gill and east thereafter. The return on the old bridleway is straightforward. |
| Eating & Drinking: | Skipton is a large market town so there is a big choice of eating and drinking. Myself, I would visit the Woolly Sheep. |
