This is a very straightforward walk with no difficulties and easy access from Skipton. However within a relatively small area there is an excellent contrast of scenery. Starting and finishing through open fields, there is a mile and a half of open moorland with excellent views and a stretch of desolation masquerading as forestry. Flasby is a small hamlet which is worth visiting simply because of the lovely gardens of Flasby Hall. The twin summits above Flasby include the Marilyn of Sharp Haw (1117′) and the slightly lower Rough How, both worth visiting for their wide reaching views and peaceful outlook. The route outlined is clearly my favourite but one of the pleasures of this mini massif is that you can pick your own – certainly a detour along the boulders overlooking Gargrave and a shortcut cutting out Flasby is certainly reasonable – it is an area you simply cannot go wrong in.

Recommend: Best done during May when the rhododendrons are at their best.
