One Day, One Way Walks

Alfred Wainwright used public transport to travel around the Lake District and research his guide books and today there is a real 'will' to re energise the local transport network and encourage walkers to use the service. The bus service in the Lakes is in fact pretty good and with some imagination there is actually a great choice of linear walks available. I have listed my favourite 10 linear walks and included, within the individual walk descriptions, information on the bus timetables and convenient services (please check the times though as they may be out of date). The walks all start from one of the major towns in the Lakes; Keswick, Windermere or Ambleside. I have suggest taking the bus at the start of the day so that there is no time pressure to catch 'the last bus' at the end of the walk.
