Privacy Policy

On 25 May 2018 the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) come into force. These are lengthy and complicated and can be seen via the Information Comissioner’s Office website. In essence, these require organisations/companies to safeguard personal information and give customers/visitors to websites the option to opt out of having their personal information recorded or have any already held “forgotten”.

Cookies

With effect from 26 May 2012, a new EU law (e-Privacy Directive) came into force in the UK setting out requirements for the use of cookies by websites. The idea is to prevent information being stored on people’s computers, and used to recognise them without their knowledge and agreement.

The Information Commissioner’s Office has produced guidance and described cookies as:

“A cookie is a small text file that is downloaded onto ‘terminal equipment’ (eg a computer or smartphone) when the user accesses a website. It allows the website to recognise that user’s device and store some information about the user’s preferences or past actions.”
