The paths are very good and the villages of Thixendale and the church at Wharram Percy book end the walk perfectly. Thorpe Bassett Wold near Settrington North Grimston is the base for a walk over Thorpe Bassett Wold near Settrington. The wold stands proud in this part of the country with constantly changing views, excellent from the high points. The Walk South east of Malton is a Thorpe Bassett Wold. Sutton Bank and the White Horse The area around Sutton Bank and the White Horse makes for a very enjoyable circular walk. However it takes a bit of planning. This walk includes a visit to the White Horse, Gormire Lake and superb views across the Vale Of York. Stonegrave and the Rye walk The Stonegrave and the Rye walk includes two picturesque village, a pleasant riverside section and a short climb to Caulkley’s Bank. Here there are some lovely views across the Hambleton Hills. The Walk There is so much to this walk it is actually difficult to do it justice in a short description. The Valleys of Medieval Cottam The walk through the dry valleys of medieval Cottam is an eerie experience. The valleys are extraordinarily uniform and the villages and buildings impossibly perfect. Mount Grace Priory Park in Osmotherley and drop steeply to the grounds of Mount Grace Priory. Visit if you wish then return via the woods. Osmotherley is an excellent village, the centre of walking in the North York Moors. Short Walk from Osmotherley This short walk from Osmotherley has excellent views over the village. It climbs a little to the edge of the moors before returning via some attractive woodland. An extension to Cod Beck Reservoir is easy to do. Round Hill on Urra Moor Chop Gate in Bilsdale is the start of this walk to Round Hill on Urra Moor, the highest point in the North York Moors. The moorland walking on Urra Moor is on very good paths with excellent views. Whitby Abbey and the coast Whitby Abbey is splendidly situated on the headland just south of the town of its name. To most appreciate Whitby Abbey and the coast walk start along the cliffs and then return to approach the abbey from the south east. It is a short walk but simple at any time of the year. Ash Dale at Helmsley walk Beautiful Ash Dale at Helmsley is a lovely place to walk. The woods in spring and early summer are full of life. In particular enjoy the detour over Warsett Hill with its impressive views. The Walk For those walking the Cleveland Way, Saltburn by the Sea is a highly satisfactory staging post.
