High Sneaton Moor Goathland is the base for a fine walk up High Sneaton Moor. Lilla Cross, Fylingdales and the excellent Eller Beck add to the enjoyment of this interesting walk. Terrington walk and the Wolds The Terrington walk through the Hambleton Hills is a pleasant way of discovering the area. The walk is a mix of woodland and farmland, dotted with isolated farms and villages. Spend some time enjoying Terrington when you have completed the walk. Ravenscar to Hayburn Wyke The circular walk from Ravenscar to Hayburn Wyke starts by following the coastal path past the look out stations. Return from Hayburn Wyke is via the route of the Old Railway. The Walk I have always found Ravenscar a bit of a strange place. Dales of Kirkbymoorside Gillamoor and Fadmore are two of the dales of Kirkbymoorside which compose an excellent walk through attractive, rolling countryside. Idyllic Kirkdale Church, hidden in the woods makes for a fine finale. The Walk I was pleasantly surprised to find some excellent walking country north of Kirkbymoorside. Hole of Horcum walk The Hole of Horcum walk takes you to a tourist hot spot near Whitby. Rather than just a visit to the ‘Hole’ the day is much enhanced by a longer walk at Levisham, approaching via the high moors and returning along the floor of the valley. Head of Farndale walk This is a short walk at the head of Farndale. The walk rises quickly to the ridge where you follow the old railway track around to Bloworth Crossing. It offers a good taster of the scenery in this lovely area. Rievaulx Abbey walk Rievaulx Abbey is one of best preserved of the abbeys in the country. It sits on a hillside, near a river and surrounded by woods. In times past it was a smugglers village and the bay provided a perfect, secretive landing spot. Hills over Hawnby Hawnby Hill and Easterside Hill are two prominent humps best climbed from the village of Hawnby. The terrain on the hills of Hawnby themselves makes for some enjoyable walking, as does the crossing which links them. Moors above Osmotherley The Moors above Osmotherley stretch deep in to the North York Moors. However the walking (as long as you stick to paths) is quick and easy. On this walk there is the bonus of passing the lovely Jenny Brewster reservoirs on the approach.
