High Sneaton Moor

  • A walk over exposed moorland
  • Visit the lovely Eller Beck valley
  • Start & finish at Goathland

This is a wonderfully airy walk; vast open spaces to stride along, far reaching views to the sea and a start at the iconic village of Goathland. I completed this walk on a bright but showery day which was great for the views. However the approaching showers gave you plenty of time to prepare for them, unfortunately I had left my jacket in the car.  Sprinting to the nearest partial shelter (including the cross) characterised my day.

From Goathland, Eller Beck has its own pretty valley but it is not long before you are up in the moors. Lillas Cross and the high point on Sneaton Moor provide an exposed focus, as does the forestry to the north (do not go in to the forest – it is a confusing place)

Recommend: If this is your only walk from Goathland walk the extra mile to look at Mallyan Spout
