Ravenscar to Heyburn Wyke

  • Great coastal walking
  • Return along the old railway
  • Stop for a cuppa at your half way point

I have always found Ravenscar a bit of a strange place. The situation is superb, overlooking Robin Hood’s Bay and the walking nearby is without parallel as the cliffs are high here and the coast spectacular. Unfortunately the impressive Raven Hall hotel makes access to the actual edge of the cliffs difficult, an attraction for those staying at the hotel but not so much for your poor walker.

Ravenscar village itself is better but slightly set back so there are no coastal views. For those walking south from the village this is coastal walking par excellence. The views are wonderful with the high cliffs bringing an uncomfortable knowledge of being poised on a big void;  a step in the wrong direction could well be catastrophic.

Recommend: A return from Heyburn Wyke via the old railway is recommended rather than doubling back along the cliffside path.
