Walking near Feizor

July 18, 2017

There is some lovely limestone walking near Feizor. Scars and pavements abound. In addition the views across to Pen-y-Ghent are good and the cafe in Feizor is the best around.

The Walk

There is something immensely satisfying about walking through the limestone of the southern Dales. As a result there is a disproportionate number of walks on Where2walk in and around the Settle area. The limestone scars and pavements in the tract of land between Austwick and Stainforth include some of the best examples. It is wonderful to watch the sunlight catching the light grey rock on a good day creating a brilliant white glare. On more cloudy days or as night falls the light creates different more moody scene, enjoyable none the less.

Not only good to look at the actual underfoot terrain in limestone is a pleasure. The broad, short grass paths are so easy on the feet the miles simply disappear. It fact this is a walk that could almost be done with bare feet (sheep poo excepted). In addition the views over to Stainforth and Pen-y-Ghent are excellent, the striking profile standing proud above the moors below. Finally Helen really chose this walk as she was keen to sample the pleasures of Elaine’s cafe, possibly the best in the Yorkshire Dales.

Recommend

Frustrated by the shortness of the walk, then carry on down to Stainforth Falls or start the walk in Austwick. If you do carry on towards Stainforth you will first arrive at a campsite and cafe. Following that are the splendid Stainforth Falls before a short climb takes you in to the village of Stainforth.

Navigation Tips for Walking near Feizor

The path from Feizor leads directly to the main valley of Ribbledale. Therefore the left fork just after the high point on the obvious bridleway is easy to miss.
