“Set in the rugged but beautiful Langdale Valley the Langdale 10 is a tough day walk including 10 of the best Wainwrights” 15 miles. 1,700 ms (5,400 ft)The WalkLangdale Pikes and High Raise from LingmoorThe circuit of the Langdale Valley is a challenging one day walk. It is comparable to the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in height gained (a little more) and although shorter, the nature of the terrain and the much rougher paths makes this a similar challenge. All the fells are classed as Wainwrights and over 2,000 foot.Bowfell 902 ms (2,960 ft)Esk Pike 885 ms (2,903 ft)Rossett Pike 651 ms (2,106 ft)Pike O’ Stickle 709 ms (2,323 ft)Loft Crag 680 ms (2,270 ft)Harrison Stickle 736 ms (2,403 ft)Pavey Ark 700 ms (2,288ft)Thunacar Knott 723 ms (2,351 ft)High Raise 762 ms (2,500 ft)Seageant’s Man 731 ms (2,414 ft)Summit of Harrison StickleFrom Langdale (New Dungeon Ghyll) the route heads in initially for the Band and a steep ascent of Bowfell. The rough and rocky path heads north to Esk Pike with the two first peaks the highest at over 2,900 feet each. From here it is downhill all the way! Carry on north to Esk Hause and the main track heading south west, past Angle Tarn to the col overlooking the head of Langdale. The views (if you are out the cloud) are superb as you head north over Rossett Pike and down to the col at Stake Pass. A long trawl (often wet) leads gradually up towards the Langdale Pikes. The first , Pike O’Stickle, involves a bit of a scramble and is exposed on the summit. From here the peaks come thick and fast; Loft Crag, Harrison Stickle and Pavey Ark are rocky and dramatic whereas the remaining peaks are not.Pike O StickleHeading north from Pavey Ark the land becomes rolling and grassy; Thurnacar Knott is crossed on the climb to High Raise (the highest point of the Langdales, but only 2,500 feet). The return is over Seargeant’s Man and back to Stickle Tarn. From here a steep and eroded path leads down to your start point at the new Dungeon Ghyll.
