Dacre and Dalemain To the north east of Pooley Bridge lie the quiet area of Dacre and Dalemain House. Dalemain House is a lovely building and Dacre an interesting village set in rolling countryside. Seatoller to Keswick walk To explore the Borrowdale Valley take the bus to Seatoller and return to Keswick. The Seatoller to Keswick walk starts alongside the embryonic River Derwent and completes the day with a choice of 3 paths alongside Derwentwater. The Coniston Round The Coniston Round includes a number of Wainwright Fells. How many depends on how many detours you make. This walk describes the climb of Coniston Old Man before taking to the main ridge to Brim Fell, Swirl How and Wetherlam. Souther Fell A sumptuous, wide grassy ridge with easy walking and outstanding views over the Northern Fells encapsulate Souther Fell. Add to that you will almost certainly have no company and Souther Fell makes for a very worthwhile slice of Lakeland. The Walk 1,713 feet high. Bannisdale Horseshoe Only 5 miles from Kendal the Bannisdale Horseshoe is a walk for those after solitude and tranquility. Nine of Wainwright’s Outlying Fells form the focus for the 12 mile round. The Walk Aside from dedicated followers of Wainwright, the guide book writer, very few will have heard of the Bannisdale Horseshoe. I certainly had not. 4 Rating: Moderate and over 10 miles 11.5mi Distance: 11.5 miles / 18.4 km 720m Elevation: 720m / 2362ft
The Round of Easedale The walk over the ridges of Grasmere completes the Round of Easedale. It covers a number of Wainright fells as the walker picks their way through the knobbly terrain. It is very enjoyable, full of surprises, tough but very under rated. The Walk Many will have hiked over the Wainwrights (particularly the Lion and the 5 Rating: Difficult walk 10.5mi Distance: 10.5 miles / 16.8 km 717m Elevation: 717m / 2352ft
A Quiet Windermere walk Yes they do exist! Head inland from the lake and discover some rarely visited country offering a quiet Windermere walk. There is a short climb up School Knotts followed by a visit to two peaceful tarns. The return is via the Dales Way. Scafell from the South The most unusual approach is to tackle Scafell from the south. It is also the best. The walk through and climb out of Eskdale is lovely, the wide ridge direct and the return via the lonely waters of Burnmoor Tarn nice and relaxing. . Scafell Pike and Scafell Classic The climb of Scafell Pike and Scafell from Wasdale involves a steep and relentless climb from the valley and a tricky crossing between the two (very separate) mountains. It is rightly a classic. The descent from Scafell is lovely. Melmerby Fell To the north of Cross Fell there is a fine Pennine walk up Melmerby Fell. The walk is similar in character to Cross Fell but shorter. It is quiet place and an excellent option to achieve a less frequented visited peak. The Walk Apparently fell runners regularly take to the slopes of Melmerby Fell. Devoke Water Situated between Eskdale and the Duddon Valley is a delectable area of water, Devoke Water. It is a fisherman’s paradise, very quiet and surrounded by low lying hills. It is a special place. The Walk Hidden away on Birker Fell to the south of Eskdale lies Devoke Water. Latrigg and the Keswick Old Railway The walk over Latrigg and returning via the Keswick Old Railway is a must do for anyone staying at Keswick. It includes an easy hill to climb which is more than compensated by the outstanding views. Returning via the Old Railway is an easy and interesting end to the walk.
