The Yorkshire 3 Peaks – Hire a guide

Thousands of walkers take the 3 Peaks challenge of Yorkshire each year, not all succeed but most do. We are happy to offer a guiding service which will help you complete Pen y Ghent (2,277ft, 694m), Whernside (2,415ft, 736m), and finally Ingleborough (2,372ft, 723m) in the required time. The challenge is to complete the walk in 12 hours and is 24.5 miles in length and involves over 5,000 foot of climbing… which is tough.

For the best information about the walk and all that the challenge entails buy the 3 Peaks Book which is available via this link

Our Guiding Service

Some walkers will want to use a guide, some will not. The benefits of using a guide can really be broken down in to 3 main areas:

Route finding

Although there is a path to follow it is quite possible to take a wrong turning if you are unsure of the route, particularly if the weather is not good. The summits, in particular, can be confusing in cloud, a wrong turning leading to loss of time and potential danger.

Confidence

A guide will ensure that the best decisions are made for the individuals and the group. They can also assess how quickly the party is going and whether it is likely to complete the challenge but is also fully prepared for any accident.

Good Company and local knowledge

There are many miles of easy walking and although the views are splendid it is nice to have the knowledge and company of someone who is very familiar with the area and can talk about climbing and walking in Yorkshire and beyond.

A guide for the day costs £350 for up to 10 people. If there are more than 10 people then a second guide will be needed.

All our guides are Mountain Leaders with up to date First Aid qualifications.

To find out more either email us at jonathan@where2walk.co.uk or call me direct on 07824 304060.

Once you are happy to go ahead fill in our Booking Form which will confirm your guide and ensure you have read our Booking Conditions

There is no guarantee that you or anyone in your party will complete the 3 Peaks in 12 hours but we will give it our best shot!

Saturday 19th September 2015 – Yorkshire 3 Peak (completed in under ten hours!!)
A massive thank you to our professional guides Jonathan and Heather.
I knew from my initial request for information that we were going to have a great trip.
Jonathan was brilliant at responding to requests when I was making the booking, providing our group with all the information required to prepare for the trip.
On the day of the trip the group were well briefed at the start.
Both Guides were friendly, experienced, and knowledgeable – they provided each and every one of us with encouragement throughout the challenge. There were plenty of moments were I thought I might give up but having that experienced person who was fantastic at helping you to visualise your way to the top was great!!!
We were very lucky with the weather and the views from the top made every step worthwhile. After each peak there was an ice cream van selling refreshments – bonus!!
At the end of the day both Jonathan and Heather kindly came to the pub with us for a well-deserved drink.
Even if you are Uber fit and have mountain experience like our group, I’d still recommend hiring one or two guides as they provide you with support throughout, encouragement, a back-up plan if something were to happen to anyone in the group and also importantly they are able to pace you – even the most fittest people can burn themselves out on challenges.
So whether you are doing it for fun/fitness or for a charity I’d give our guides a massive ten out of ten!!
Yorkshire – you were amazing and lived up to everything we had hoped for !!!
I am already in talks about future challenges such as the Lake District 8 peak Challenge!

I just wanted to say thank you to yourself and Heather. The organisation and advice leading up to our walk was great.

Our guide Heather was absolutely great in every way and couldn’t be faulted.

We all enjoyed the walk even if some are saying they will never do it again.

Once again I just wanted to pass our thanks on for helping make our day enjoyable and just getting us round.

    Thanks

Just a quick email rom the walkers at William Hare to say thanks very much for your help doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks back in September. The experience of you and your team was invaluable in getting us round it in under 12 hours.

Apart from the first ascent within 10 minutes of starting the walk and the last 5 miles back to Horton, I have to admit I quite enjoyed it and I think that goes for everyone else too.

As well as getting some exercise it also raised £3500 for the Air Ambulance.

    Kind regards

    Judith Watts
