Little Langdale Little Langdale is the quieter of the two Langdale valleys. Because the mountains are less well known, publicised less it is tends to be less busy. There are a number of low level walks along the valley, this one includes the old slate mine in Tilberthwaite. Staveley to Longsleddale From Staveley to Longsleddale is a walk forgotten. Rarely done by visitors it is the locals who tread between the valleys. It is an interesting rather than thrilling walk but offers a different side to the Lake District. The walk to Sycamore Gap The tree at Sycamore Gap was felled in 2023 in an act of vandalism. In the past the tree marked a significant marker for taking the walk along Hadrian’s Wall. Now the short walk to Sycamore Gap from the nearby Twice Brewed makes for a pilgrimage for many. Some people are simply ignorant. A Walk at Kirkby Lonsdale A short walk at Kirkby Lonsdale is a pleasant way to explore this interesting market town. The walk heads for Devil’s Bridge before returning along a pleasant section of the River Lune. Finally the Radical Steps return you to town. Rannerdale Knotts Rannerdale Knotts is a small fell with a hidden secret. On the banks of Crummock Water the hill is prominent but hides an enclosed valley. The valley (Rannerdale) is lovely, particularly when full of bluebells. The Walk 1,160 ft. Rannerdale Knotts is often ignored. Walking in Upper Wharfedale A low level walk in Upper Wharfedale links the three villages of Kettlewell, Starbotton and Buckden. The walk follows the river closely heading out and the lower slopes of the surrounding hills on its return. The Walk The best part of the Dales Way is through this section of Upper Wharfedale. Twisleton Scar near Ribblehead Twisleton Scar (or Twistleton) is a fine area of limestone pavement that is situated on the southern lower slopes of Whernside near Ribblehead. Apart from the limestone walking the views over to Ingleborough are excellent. Grimwith Reservoir via Hebden Beck The walk from Grimwith Reservoir via Hebden Beck is full of interest. From the lovely Hebden Beck the walk climbs on to the moors and down to Grimwith Reservoir where the peace and quiet complete a lovely day out. Pendle Hill from Downham The climb up Pendle Hill from Downham commences through farmland. On the open hillside the path leads directly to the summit but on the return it is worth exploring the vast plateau before returning to Downham.
