Nenthead to Garrigill walk The Nenthead to Garrigill walk is highly enjoyable. The fascinating villages at both ends bookmark an area of remote and rarely walked moorland. The walk is very pleasant but becomes better as the track passes under the viaduct. Moors of Crosby Ravensworth The area near Crosby Ravensworth is very quiet and unspoilt. For a peaceful, stress free walk head south and enjoy the open moors. It is part of the Coast to Coast. South Tyne Trail Use the South Tynedale Railway for a short one way along the South Tyne Trail. River and rail enthusiasts will enjoy it most but the scenery around is lovely in the summer months. South Tyne at Garrigill The South Tyne at Garrigill is little more than a stream most of the year. This short walk in remote countryside leaves Garrigill and follows the west bank to Bleagate, returning on the east side. An Alston Discovery walk North of Alston is a lovely walk. The Alston Discovery starts with a walk up the South Tyne. It returns, after a short climb, on the flanks of Grey Nag. Here the views are very good and the solitude complete. Nine Standards Rigg Nine Standards Rigg is a large fell situated near Kirkby Stephen and a significant obstacle on the Coast to Coast. Cross Fell from the West Cross Fell from the west is the easiest way to climb the mountain. The walk does lack interest except on the summit plateau which is of course the highest place in England outside the Lake District.
