Bowscale Tarn and Bannerdale Crags Mungrisedale is the start of an interesting walk to Bowscale Tarn and Bannerdale Crags. The tarn is in a beautiful setting and the easy walking from Bowscale summit to Bannerdale has some wonderful views over Blencathra and Skiddaw. It can be extended by finishing on Souther Fell. Great Crag from Watendlath Exquisite Dock Tarn is the highlight of this walk which visits the rugged summit of Great Crag and starts in the pretty little hamlet of Watendlath. Wansfell Pike from Ambleside The traditional climb of Wansfell Pike from Ambleside is perfectly pleasant. However the walk is much improved by carrying on towards Troutbeck and turning south and returning along the fellside overlooking Windermere. The Walk A health warning. The Helm at Oxenholme The Helm at Oxenholme has a lovely whale back ridge with perfect under foot terrain. The views are dominated by Kendal itself but a glimpse at the Lakeland hills always brings a warm glow. Angletarn Pikes Angletarn Pikes overlook one of the most beautiful tarns in the Lake District, unsurprisingly called Angle Tarn! It is an idyllic place to loiter alongside its tranquil waters or scramble on the twin pikes above. All this with the higher High Street Ridge and many Wainwrights on the doorstep. Climbing Arnside Knott Climbing Arnside Knott is very satisfying. The small hill sits on the edge of Morcambe Bay and any walk on its slopes gives excellent views over the southern Lakes. Limestone outcrops and woodland cover its steep slopes. Whitbarrow, South Lakes The long north south ridge of Whitbarrow stands out dramatically as you drive along the A590. It is limestone bedrock which offers the distinctive profile. Any walk along the ridge is a pleasure, it really is a hidden gem in the Southern Lake District. Yewbarrow Yewbarrow stands proud on the southern slopes of Upper Wasdale. The views are spectacular across Wast Water and in to the Scafells. The steep slopes of Yewbarrow enhance the views as there is nothing in the foreground. Climb it by its south west ridge and appreciate a fine mountain. High Rigg High Rigg is a marvellous lowish fell situated between the A591 near Keswick and At John’s in the Vale. It is a rugged little fell, full of interest with great views over Blencathra and Skiddaw. Amongst the undulating long summit ridge are hidden hollows, tarns and a myriad of rocky outcrops. Souther Fell A sumptuous, wide grassy ridge with easy walking and outstanding views over the Northern Fells encapsulate Souther Fell. Add to that you will almost certainly have no company and Souther Fell makes for a very worthwhile slice of Lakeland. The Walk 1,713 feet high. Mellbreak and Crummock Water Mellbreak and Crummock Water sit side by side on the quiet side of the Buttermere valley. Many motorists pass on their way to valley end but few stop at the excellent pub and complete this walk. It is one of the best. The Walk 1,676 ft. Muncaster Fell Muncaster Fell is the broad ridge to the west of lower Eskdale. Further west is the Ravenglass to Eskdale mini railway, to the east the lower level return. The ridge itself is a lovely with great views across to the coast and Irish Sea. The Walk 758′.
