Lion & the Lamb The Lion and the Lamb (Helm Crag) is one of the most impressive and memorable sites for anyone travelling from the north or south towards Grasmere. It is Grasmere’s mountain. The climb does justice to the long distance views. Fellbarrow over Loweswater Two easy, but rarely visited Wainwrights lie on Fellbarrow over Loweswater. The views from the lower, southern summit to upper Buttermere are particularly impressive as is the underfoot terrain. The Walk 1363′. It is so tempting to pass Fellbarrow and Low Fell and ignore them. I have done exactly that many times as I headed 3 Rating: Moderate walk 5mi Distance: 5 miles / 8 km 456m Elevation: 456m / 1496ft
Wet Sleddale, near Shap Wet Sleddale is hidden away in a quiet corner of the Lake District near Shap. This walk circles the reservoir and ends above it with good views across the valley and beyond. Lands around Loweswater Loweswater is a small lake usually overlooked by those heading up the Buttermere valley. The walk around the lake, particularly around its south western shores, is very pleasant amongst the trees. The Walk I cannot ever remember passing Loweswater let alone stopping and walking its shores before discovering this walk. Ard Crags above Newlands The climb along Ard Crags above Newlands is one of the finest and easiest ridge walks in the Lake District. The views are excellent and it feels a privilege to be there. However their are steep slopes at either end. The Walk 1860′. The Martindale Round The Martindale Round is a Lakeland walk over excellent fells which is rarely done. Starting near Howtown the route covers Angletarn Crags and the lesser spotted Beda Fell, Rest Dodd and the Nab. The Walk I completed a walk on Beda Fell in Martindale a few weeks ago and felt vaguely unsatisfied. Not so much 5 Rating: Difficult walk 9mi Distance: 9 miles / 14.4 km 638m Elevation: 638m / 2093ft
Newlands Round A fine walk along good paths with outstanding views, the Newlands Round covers three main Wainwrights but can be extended to include two more. The Walk Whenever I walk the Newlands Round the name of the book “How Green is my Valley” comes to mind. Gait Barrows Nature Reserve In the Arnside and Silverdale AONB is the Gait Barrows Nature Reserve. It is packed full of wildlife and the tracks are in good condition. I enjoy combining it with a trip to the nearby beaches of Arnside for a nice contrast. Silverdale Head Silverdale is tucked away to the south of the Lake District off Morecambe Bay. The round of Silverdale Head includes some rocky coastal and beach walking. Also a visit to a nature reserve and an exploration of the town. A Walk around Grasmere A walk around Grasmere lake is a very popular walk for any people staying in the own. The paths are easy to follow and the views across the lake are lovely. The small pebble beach on the southern shore makes a wonderful picnic spot. A walk at Nenthead Near Alston is an area of remote moorland interspersed with the remains of a lead mining industry. When doing this straightforward walk at Nenthead via Nent Hall it is difficult to believe that this place used to team with life. Nenthead to Garrigill walk The Nenthead to Garrigill walk is highly enjoyable. The fascinating villages at both ends bookmark an area of remote and rarely walked moorland. Ashgill Falls is good as well. The Walk Nenthead has an impressive history. Although the whole area around these North Pennines was intensely mines, usually for lead and silver, in Nethead the 5 Rating: Difficult walk 9.5mi Distance: 9.5 miles / 15.2 km 352m Elevation: 352m / 1154ft
