St John’s in the Vale Tewet Tarn is a lovely, rarely visited tarn and the object of this short walk in St John’s in the Vale. Coniston to Ambleside via Tarn Hows The one way walk from Coniston to Ambleside passes through some lovely Lakeland countryside. Fleetwith Pike The distinctive (ship’d bow) shape of Fleetwith Pike dominates the head of Buttermere. Climb Orrest Head Orrest Head is the little hill overlooking Windermere. The climb is short but the views over the lake are excellent. Climbing Catbells Climbing Catbells is a right of passage for any youngster visiting the Lake District for the first time. With parking a problem this route is from nearby Little Town. Limestone Pavements over Orton The limestone pavements over Orton offer a lovely half day walk with good views. The Helm at Oxenholme The Helm at Oxenholme has a lovely whale back ridge with perfect under foot terrain. Kirkstone Pass to Threlkeld Kirkstone Pass to Threlkeld passes over the the full spine of the Helvellyn Range taking in 14 Wainwrights.
