Helvellyn via Striding Edge Helvellyn via Striding Edge is one of the must do walks in England. It is popular but not at all easy. Some find the crossing stressful and daunting, most enjoy it and all have a feeling of great satisfaction when they complete it. A return via Raise avoids the awkward descent of Swirral Edge. Climbing Grasmoor from Crummock Water Climbing Grasmoor from Crummock Water is an unusual way to approach the mountain. It is a steep pull but the walk makes best use of the finest features of the Grasmoor round These are the western ridges of Whiteside and Lad Hows or, if you are feeling energetic, the Wainwright of Whiteless Pike. Limestone Pavements over Orton The limestone pavements over Orton offer a lovely half day walk with good views. Orton itself is an attractive village however it is the beautiful pavements above that are the key to the walk. Eel Tarn in Eskdale For a short walk in to some rugged, quiet, typical Lakeland scenery look no further than Eel Tarn in Eskdale. Start from Boot and climb steadily through the bracken to Eel Tarn, continuing to Stony Tarn if you wish. Dove Crag and Red Screes Follow two long and interesting ridges in a climb over Dove Crag and Red Screes from Ambleside. It provides a good alternative to the more popular Fairfield Round. The crossing at Scandale Hause is full of interest. Beatrix Potter Country Between Windermere and Coniston is an area of lowland tarns and woodland known as Beatrix Potter Country. It is where she lived and was spent the happiest days of her life. Claiffe Heights is the high point and a challenge to find, I assume she did!. However this walk takes you along the beautiful valley floor between Elterwater and the New Dubngeon Ghyll Hotel. Good walking along Great Langdale Beck with views to the fells around. The rocky paths and landscape make for a slow day and the lack of height not noticeable and little help! It is memorable. The Walk Deservedly one of the most popular walks in the Lakes. High Spy over Borrowdale High Spy is in the centre of a long wide ridge separating Borrowdale from Newlands. This walk combines High Spy with an exploration of Upper Borrowdale.
