Thruscross Reservoir Starting at the dam the walk around Thruscross Reservoir initially follows the shoreline. After some remains from the dam creation the walk takes to the moors above the reservoir. It is a walk of peace and tranquility. Whernside from Ribblehead The climb of Whernside from Ribblehead is one of the most popular walks in the Yorkshire Dales. Any walk combining the superb viaduct at Ribblehead with the highest point in Yorkshire must be good. The Walk Look for my extension on this walk (under Recommend) which improves it yet further. Lower Dentdale walk From Sedbergh a circular walk heads to the moors on the northern slopes of lower Dentdale. From there it drops to the pretty cobbled village of Dent. The return is via the River Dee. The Walk One of my favourite sections of the Dales Way passes between Sedbergh and Dent. The Moors North of Slaidburn The moors north of Slaidburn offer a wild and lonely walk through grouse moors. Walkers are a rare sight, wildlife more plentiful and it is place to immerse yourself in its bleakness. Burton Leonard near Ripon Burton Leonard near the town of Ripon is a pleasant low level village set within a set of open fields. The walk is not one to travel miles to do but for those living nearby it should not be missed. Casterton and the River Lune The River Lune north of Kirkby Lonsdale winds its way up a quiet valley. The walk reaches Barbondale before heading back through the grounds of Home Farm. Weets Hill and ‘Barlick’ Weets Hill is surprisingly impressive. Topped by a cairn, trig point and a well positioned bench the views across Barnoldswick (‘Barlick’ to its friends) are excellent. It is more of a local’s walk however and therefore quiet and those you meet knowledgeable. A snowy Walk near Settle A steep climb from Settle brings you in to some lovely limestone countryside with great views over the Ribble Valley and beyond. The Walk This is a fine little walk at all times of the year. Embsay Reservoir and Embsay Crag I think this is my favourite walk near Skipton. It starts with a circuit of Embsay Reservoir and follows with a short climb to Embsay Crag. The Walk Just over a mile outside Skipton is Embsay village. The village is reasonably large, more of a suburb of Skipton. A walk up Great Knoutberry Hill Upper Dentdale and a climb up Great Knoutberry offers one of my favourite walks in the Yorkshire Dales. It combines great views from the lovely summit of Great Knoutberry Hill with the engineering master class of Arten Gill viaduct. 3 Rating: Moderate walk 6.5mi Distance: 6.5 miles / 10.4 km 424m Elevation: 424m / 1391ft
Richmond to Easby Abbey This is a highly enjoyable short walk along the River Swale to Easby Abbey. The route follows the Old Railway to a bridge over the River Swale before returning along a riverside path. Following the walk spend some time in Richmond, its shops, pubs and impressive castle. Fell Head in the Howgills Fell Head is a graceful mountain on the western edge of the Howgills. There are extensive views over the M6 (!) to the eastern Lakeland fells. The climb is a pleasure on good paths and it is easy to extend the walk towards the highest mountain in the Howgills, the Calf.
