High Moors over Masham The Moors over Masham offer an excellent walk on good tracks. The walk is quite long but the views are impressive and extensive, particularly over Nidderdale. Kirkstone Pass to Threlkeld Kirkstone Pass to Threlkeld passes over the the full spine of the Helvellyn Range taking in 14 Wainwrights. It is a long ditance epic and should be tried by anyone fit and enthusiastic. Fortunately the hard work is in the first half of the walk, it is almost all down hill from Helvellyn! Yockenthwaite Moor from Wharfedale The quickest and easiest route up Yockenthwaite Moor is from the south. The start is Yockenthwaite Farm, the climb follows a farm track for much of the way and the conclusion is through a series of peat hags. Kentmere and Troutbeck Walking in the remote country between Kentmere and Troutbeck is a real pleasure. It is a peaceful walk where the miles tend to slip by. The views are good and I ended up with a real feel of well being. Cow Green Reservoir In Upper Teesdale the River Tees emerges dramatically at Cow Green Reservoir over the rocks of the spectacular Cauldron Spout. The walk follows the river to the reservoir returning on good tracks. The Walk The walk to Cow Green Reservoir provided one of those wow moments of a good walk. Climb Cross Fell The most popular way to climb Cross Fell is from the small village of Garrigill near Alston. Even then it is a long climb across the moors. On a fine day the views across the north eastern lakes are good. Dow Crag via Seathwaite Tarn Starting from the Duddon Valley the walk heads towards the Coniston Fells via Seathwaite Tarn. From here climb the steep slopes to Dow Crag and enjoy the wonderful views along its grassy ridge. The Walk This is one of my favourite walks in the Lake District, possibly even Top 5. From Lindisfarne to Berwick The coastline from Lindisfarne to Berwick is the quietest section of the Northumbrian Coast. It is an area of Nature Reserves, quiet beaches and one of the best golf courses in England. On this walk I took the bus from Berwick to Beal and walking back north along the coast. Lily Tarn above Ambleside Visiting Lily Tarn above Ambleside makes for an excellent short walk. It is ideal for visitors who do not want to walk far but experience an area of traditional Lake District. It is a lovely spot to linger and enjoy the views. Semer Water walk The Semer Water walk is unusual. Not only are lakes very rare in the Yorkshire Dales but this one is both a nature reserve and an outdoor centre. The return is much improved by climbing to the ridge above the west banks. The Beauty of Ullswater To fully appreciate the beauty of Ullswater take the ferry to the quieter southern shores and walk back. The path is delightful and the ever changing lakeside views always interesting. It is Alfred Wainwright’s favourite lowland walk. The Walk I agree with Wainwright. High Street Ridge From Haweswater a rocky climb past two idyllic tarns leads on to the broad, grassy High Street ridge. Once on the ridge the views are excellent and the walking easy. The return is via the shores of Haweswater.
