Bolton Abbey walk As the River Wharfe careers out of Wharfedale it passes the remains of Bolton Abbey. Plover Hill from Halton Gill Take the walk up Plover Hill from Halton Gill in Littondale and you will be very unlikely to meet anyone. The walk covers some remote coutryside, visits an unlikely summit and starts from the far end of a long but lovely dale. Hidden Valleys of Wharfedale Littondale and Langstrothdale are two of the hidden valleys of Wharfedale. Linking them in a long walk makes for one of the best days out in the Yorkshire Dales. A Kettlewell Circular Kettlewell is dramatically surrounded by steep sided mountains which may be a little daunting. However it is perfectly straightforward to gain good height and enjoy the wonderful panorama of Upper Wharfedale without a steep climb. Two climbs in fact but neither steep. Sheffield Pike from Glenridding The excellent walk of Sheffield Pike from Glenridding is often ignored by the thousands heading for Helvellyn. That is a mistake as it is an excellent mountain with spectacyular views over Helvellyn. Staveley and Potter Tarn The twin tarns of Gurnal Dubs and Potter Tarn form the centrepiece of an attractive area of moorland near Kendal. Red Squirrels at Snaizeholme Snaizeholme in Widdale, on the Hawes to Ribblehead road is probably the best place to see red squirrels in the Yorkshire Dales. The protected woodland is well set with a viewing area. However the red squirrels are just a part of a short walk in an interesting and very rarely visited side dale. Arden Great Moor Between Sutton Bank and Osmotherley there is a large area of grouse moorland. The excellent tracks and wide views in all directions make for an invigorating and interesting walk. The walk sticks mainly to the edges of the moor with contrasting views in to all the differing valleys which circuit the moor. Fremington Edge The limestone scar of Fremington Edge is the most striking feature of the area around Reeth. A walk along its broad ridge offers striking views over Arkengarthdale. The return below the edge is on a good path. The Walk Fremington Edge overlooks Arkengarthdale, the exposed scar formed by a retreating glacier 15,000 years ago. Dent Station and Ribblehead The one way walk between Dent Station and Ribblehead passes through some of the best and most interesting landscape including 3 viaducts, the highest station in England and some remote moorland walking.
