Moors over Carlton Bank The moors over Carlton Bank offer some excellent walking with views towards the sea and Teesside! The old gliding club and a fine trig point break up this simple walk. The low level return is via Faceby. The Wainstones walk This walk to the Wainstones is made much easier due to a starting point at the car park at Clay Bank. Climb the slopes on to Hasty Bank where a short moorland stroll brings you to the rock formation known as the Wainstones. Walk through Dalby Forest Enjoy a lovely walk through Dalby Forest near Scarborough, best when the wind is blowing elsewhere. The forest tracks are well set up and there is a pleasant riverside section on the approach to Thornton-le-Dale. Sledmere House and Park There are some lovely views down to Sledmere House from the woods to the south. The village is extremely pleasant as are the grounds in the house. I did not take a tour of the house however. Arden Hall and Coomb Hill From Hawnby the walk heads past Arden Hall and Coomb Hill. There is plenty of lovely woodland to enjoy and later in the walk some good views over the Hills over Hawnby. Cloughton and the Old Railway The Cloughton and Old Railway walk lies to the north of Scarborough. The airy coastal section finishes at the bay below Hayburn Wyke whilst the return follows the cinder track on the Old Railway line linking Whitby to Scarborough. Walk at Sheriff Hutton My walk at Sheriff Hutton takes you to the castle ruins of the ancient settlement which is set commanding the local area (on a hill!). From here the walk passes through fields and villages with some good views across the Vale of York.
