Lands around Loweswater Loweswater is a small lake usually overlooked by those heading up the Buttermere valley. The walk around the lake, particularly around its south western shores, is very pleasant amongst the trees. The Walk I cannot ever remember passing Loweswater let alone stopping and walking its shores before discovering this walk. Longridge Fell Longridge Fell is a Marilyn mountain with the summit accessed through forestry from the village of Hurst Green. The views are extensive due to the fell’s isolation from other areas of high land. The Walk Similar to Pendle Hill, Longridge Fell dominates its local area. Scaling Reservoir and Beacon Hill Lealholm in the Esk Valley is the start for the walk over the moors to Scaling Reservoir and Beacon Hill. To the north are views over the sea, to the south the North York Moors. It can be a little off piste but more enjoyable for it. Ard Crags above Newlands The climb along Ard Crags above Newlands is one of the finest and easiest ridge walks in the Lake District. The views are excellent and it feels a privilege to be there. However their are steep slopes at either end. The Walk 1860′. The Martindale Round The Martindale Round is a Lakeland walk over excellent fells which is rarely done. Starting near Howtown the route covers Angletarn Crags and the lesser spotted Beda Fell, Rest Dodd and the Nab. Newlands Round A fine walk along good paths with outstanding views, the Newlands Round covers three main Wainwrights but can be extended to include two more. The Walk Whenever I walk the Newlands Round the name of the book “How Green is my Valley” comes to mind. Climb Pen-y-Ghent Pen-y-Ghent from Horton is the classic climb on this iconic Dales mountain. The walk is much improved by continuing on the mile long ridge to Plover Hill. The Walk Pen-y-Ghent (probable meaning hill on the border) is the most famous and popular of the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Gait Barrows Nature Reserve In the Arnside and Silverdale AONB is the Gait Barrows Nature Reserve. It is packed full of wildlife and the tracks are in good condition. I enjoy combining it with a trip to the nearby beaches of Arnside for a nice contrast. Silverdale Head Silverdale is tucked away to the south of the Lake District off Morecambe Bay. The round of Silverdale Head includes some rocky coastal and beach walking. Also a visit to a nature reserve and an exploration of the town. Robin Hood’s Bay walk Robin Hood’s Bay is a lovely sweep of coast south of Whitby. The village of its name is set at one end, the cliffs of Ravenscar at the other. The walk between them makes for an enjoyable half day out. A Walk around Grasmere A walk around Grasmere lake is a very popular walk for any people staying in the own. The paths are easy to follow and the views across the lake are lovely.
