Raise, Helvellyn and Striding Edge Helvellyn and Striding Edge is one of the must do walks in the Lake District but a return by the more rounded Raise adds much to the day and is a relaxed way to descend. A walk up Penistone Hill Penistone Hill, just outside Haworth, is mentioned in Wuthering Heights as somewhere that Heathcliffe worked. Moors above Osmotherley The Moors above Osmotherley stretch deep in to the North York Moors. However the walking (as long as you stick to paths) is quick and easy. On this walk there is the bonus of passing the lovely Jenny Brewster reservoirs on the approach. Hallin Fell, Ullswater Hallin Fell is a sprightly little fell near Howtown, perfectly placed for enjoying some of the best views up and down Ullswater. The fell itself is typically lakes, little rocky outcrops, bracken covered hillside and a fine summit cairn. The Walk 1271′. Aye Gill Pike To the north of Dent lies the long whale back hill of Aye Gill Pike. It is not high enough to be one of the Dales 30 but still has outstanding views across the Dales and on a clear day to the southern lakes. Warkworth; a castle and a pristine beach The beach at Warkworth is a fine example of the best of Northumberland. The beach is a perfect 2 mile stretch of the purest sand, the return via a good path on an attractive estuary with the walk improved further by a visit to Warkworth Castle. Lion & the Lamb The Lion and the Lamb (Helm Crag) is one of the most impressive and memorable sites for anyone travelling from the north or south towards Grasmere. It is Grasmere’s mountain. The climb does justice to the long distance views. Humbleton Hill from Wooler The rolling hills near Wooler make for some excellent walking. The tracks are good and the views outstanding. On this walk there is woodland, rivers and easy moorland walking capped off with the sharp climb to the Iron Age fort on Humbleton Hill. A Wensleydale Highway The Wensleydale Highway is a short walk from Hawes to the pretty village of Burtersett. The walk is through farm lanes and fields with great views down Wensleydale. Fellbarrow over Loweswater Two easy, but rarely visited Wainwrights lie on Fellbarrow over Loweswater. The views from the lower, southern summit to upper Buttermere are particularly impressive as is the underfoot terrain. The Walk 1363′. Wet Sleddale, near Shap Wet Sleddale is hidden away in a quiet corner of the Lake District near Shap. This walk circles the reservoir and ends above it with good views across the valley and beyond. Darley and Dacre Banks Darley and Dacre Banks occupy a pretty section of the Lower Nidd south of Pateley Bridge. The walk starts alongside the river on a well walked track before returning inland with great views across the valley.
