Whitbarrow, South Lakes The long north south ridge of Whitbarrow stands out dramatically as you drive along the A590. It is limestone bedrock which offers the distinctive profile. The Sill, Sycamore Gap and Housesteads Many will take the short walk from the Sill to Sycamore Gap. However more rewarding is to extend the walk to Housesteads and return via the peaceful tracks to the north. As well as offering a different perspective to the Wall (from the north) it is a fine way to enjoy a circular hike. Exploring Hebden Beck Hebden Beck winds its way down from Grassington Moor past the remains of the 19th century lead mining industry. Swirl How and Wetherlam Swirl How and Wetherlam tower above Little Langdale. The climb up Great Carrs is up a rocky, interesting and little visited ridge whilst Wetherlam is a complex fell worth spending time on. All in all the best of the Coniston walking and an unusual one.
