Boulsworth Hill and Wycoller Only as a viewpoint does Boulsworth Hill have something to recommend climbing it. However combined with Trawden and in particular Wycoller it becomes the focus of an excellent walk. The Walk Wycoller is a small village with a ruined hall, a pretty stream and a reputation as one of the favourite haunts of the Bronte 3 Rating: Moderate walk 8mi Distance: 8 miles / 12.8 km 480m Elevation: 480m / 1574ft
A walk from Porthmadog A walk from Portmadog has the lot. Moel-y-Gest is a fine mountain that overlooks the town with excellent views. In addition the coastline to the west is lovely with rocky promontories. The Walk Pothmadog is one of my favourite places to visit in Wales. I prefer this area of coastline on the west to those 3 Rating: Moderate walk 6.5mi Distance: 6.5 miles / 10.4 km 390m Elevation: 390m / 1279ft
Long Preston and Otterburn The countryside between Long Preston and Otterburn is rarely visited by the walker. It is brilliant to explore and full of pleasant (and sometimes less so) surprises. A little bit of an adventure. The Walk I headed out from my village of Long Preston to explore the lands towards the Malham valley between Long Preston 3 Rating: Moderate walk 9mi Distance: 9 miles / 14.4 km 360m Elevation: 360m / 1181ft
The Rhinogs Rough walking in glorious scenery. This is how the Rhinogs are normally described and this walk, which includes Rhinog Fach and the highest mountain in the range Y Llethr, typifies this. 5 Rating: Difficult walk 8mi Distance: 8 miles / 12.8 km 750m Elevation: 750m / 2460ft
Whernside from Dent The route up Whernside from Dent, the highest mountain in Yorkshire, is in my opinion more enjoyable than that from Ribblehead. Dentdale is lovely and the route brings out more of the mountain’s character. The Walk I may have climbed Whernside too many times from Ribblehead but I do now prefer the quieter, more interesting 5 Rating: Difficult walk 10mi Distance: 10 miles / 16 km 567m Elevation: 567m / 1860ft
Aber Falls walk Sandwiched between the northern fringes of the large upland plateau of the Carneddau lies Aber Falls. There is, strictly, two very impressive waterfalls that can be easily visited on an excellent circular walk. 2 Rating: Easy with uphill sections 5mi Distance: 5 miles / 8 km 330m Elevation: 330m / 1082ft
Martindale and Beda Fell Martindale is a quiet valley back of Ullswater. Beda Fell is the broad, low ridge to its west. Climb it and then enjoy the undulating ridge before returning via the valley floor. The Walk The ‘other side’ of Ullswater and, in particular walking the valley and hills of Martindale, reveal the very best of the 3 Rating: Moderate walk 5.5mi Distance: 5.5 miles / 8.8 km 356m Elevation: 356m / 1168ft
Head of Haweswater The Head of Haweswater walk circles the valley head, starting with a rocky climb past the idyllic Small Water. The return heads south east over the lesser visited peaks of Harter Fell, Branstree and Selside Pike. The Walk Haweswater is a good base for a climb of the eastern fells. The walking tends to be shorter 5 Rating: Difficult walk 7.5mi Distance: 7.5 miles / 12 km 740m Elevation: 740m / 2427ft
Snowdon via Y Lliwedd The southern part of the Snowdon Horseshoe is the least busy part of the mountain. Snowdon via Y Lliwedd is also one, if not the, best approach to the summit. 5 Rating: Difficult walk 8.5mi Distance: 8.5 miles / 13.6 km 1045m Elevation: 1045m / 3428ft
Walk to Dolwyddelan Castle To the south of Betws-y-Coed and the imposing peak of Moel Siabod lies the valley of the Afon Lledyr. The focus of the walk to Dolwyddelan Castle are the impressive ruins but it is an interesting landscape throughout. 2 Rating: Easy with uphill sections 4mi Distance: 4 miles / 6.4 km 175m Elevation: 175m / 574ft
High Seat and Little Fell Two of the Dales 30 mountains lie to the east of the long valley of Mallerstang. The climb and walking on the slopes of High Seat and Little Fell is rough but the views excellent. 5 Rating: Difficult walk 10mi Distance: 10 miles / 16 km 470m Elevation: 470m / 1542ft
Head of Wharfedale The waterfalls at Cray, some lovely riverside walking and the magnificent views down dale are the highlights of a interesting walk at the head of Wharfedale. The Walk Beyond Buckden Wharfedale splits. Heading north the valley climbs steeply over to Wensleydale passing the Cray Waterfalls. I had heard a lot about the waterfalls but surprisingly 2 Rating: Easy with uphill sections 8mi Distance: 8 miles / 12.8 km 270m Elevation: 270m / 885ft
