Hay Meadows at Muker Muker is one of the idyllic small villages that sit at the head of Swaledale. The river flows nearby and the scenery is lovely although during the hay meadow season it is better still. The hay meadows are at their best in May and June. Waterfalls above Askrigg There is a beautiful series of waterfalls above Askrigg. A short wooded walks climbs the slopes above the village. Return via the farm lane which has lovely views across Wensleydale. The Walk I found that there are three distinct stages on this walk to the waterfalls above Askrigg. Ruined castles near Dunsop Bridge This Dunsop Bridge walk starts with a nice riverside stroll up Langden Brook. However on turning south the moors close in and the going becomes much rougher. The Walk Maybe the title of this walk is misleading. Dry Valleys of Thixendale The dry valleys of Thixendale are the main attraction of a delightful walk in the Yorkshire Wolds. The paths are very good and the villages of Thixendale and the church at Wharram Percy book end the walk perfectly. Thorpe Bassett Wold near Settrington North Grimston is the base for a walk over Thorpe Bassett Wold near Settrington. The wold stands proud in this part of the country with constantly changing views, excellent from the high points. The Walk South east of Malton is a Thorpe Bassett Wold. Sutton Bank and the White Horse The area around Sutton Bank and the White Horse makes for a very enjoyable circular walk. However it takes a bit of planning. This walk includes a visit to the White Horse, Gormire Lake and superb views across the Vale Of York. Dufton Pike A short, steep climb will bring you to the summit of Dufton Pike. It is an excellent peak, reminiscent of much of the northern Lake District and not the local Pennines. The views over the moors offer a more realistic scene. The Walk The fittest people in the country must live in Dufton. Great Dun Fell The walk crosses some wild Pennine country before emerging at the golf ball summit of Great Dun Fell. The return is partly down the access road but mainly on quiet country lanes and offers the opportunity to view the Northern Lakes from an unusual position. The Walk A surprising walk in so many ways! Yewbarrow Yewbarrow stands proud on the southern slopes of Upper Wasdale. The views are spectacular across Wast Water and in to the Scafells. The steep slopes of Yewbarrow enhance the views as there is nothing in the foreground. Climb it by its south west ridge and appreciate a fine mountain. High Rigg High Rigg is a marvellous lowish fell situated between the A591 near Keswick and At John’s in the Vale. It is a rugged little fell, full of interest with great views over Blencathra and Skiddaw. Amongst the undulating long summit ridge are hidden hollows, tarns and a myriad of rocky outcrops. Austwick and Feizor walk A half day walk between three lovely Dales villages, Austwick and Feizor taking in the hamlet of Wharfe. The walk passes through glorious limestone scenery, farmland and along tracks and quiet country lanes. There is much to see and do for all ages and interests. Dacre and Dalemain To the north east of Pooley Bridge lie the quiet area of Dacre and Dalemain House. Dalemain House is a lovely building and Dacre an interesting village set in rolling countryside.
