Troutbeck Tongue With good views over Windermere Troutbeck Tongue is an unusual Wainwright tucked, as it is, between higher mountains. The walk from Troutbeck is interesting following, as it does, an old Roman Road. However it is the ridge itself that makes the walk. Sale Fell Bassenthwaite To the west of Bassenthwaite, to the south of the road from Keswick to Cockermouth, is Sale Fell. A pleasant short climb brings you to the open summit of one of the smallest of the Wainwright Fells and excellent views over the rarely visited Wythop valley. The Walk 1,170 ft. Head of Haweswater The Head of Haweswater walk circles the valley head,starting with a rocky climb past the idyllic Small Water. The return heads south east over the lesser visited peaks of Harter Fell, Branstree and Selside Pike. The Walk Haweswater is a good base for a climb of the eastern fells. Eel Tarn in Eskdale For a short walk in to some rugged, quiet, typical Lakeland scenery look no further than Eel Tarn in Eskdale. Start from Boot and climb steadily through the bracken to Eel Tarn, continuing to Stony Tarn if you wish. Beatrix Potter Country Between Windermere and Coniston is an area of lowland tarns and woodland known as Beatrix Potter Country. It is where she lived and was spent the happiest days of her life. Claiffe Heights is the high point and a challenge to find, I assume she did!. Wet Sleddale, near Shap Wet Sleddale is hidden away in a quiet corner of the Lake District near Shap. This walk circles the reservoir and ends above it with good views across the valley and beyond. Bassenthwaite to Threlkeld The area to the north of Skiddaw is a wonderful place to walk. A good path follows the route from Bassenthwaite to Threlkeld and passes Dash Falls and Skiddaw House before finishing with fine views down Borrowdale. The Walk The lonely walk past Skiddaw House is superb. Twin Peaks of Longsleddale Tarn Crag and Grey Crag are the twin peaks of Longsleddale. They are rounded hills of rough grass which are easily linked. It is a long drive up the Longsleddale valley but if you are Wainwright bagging you will have to do it. The Walk 2176′. Wainwrights of Ennerdale To the south of Ennerdale Water lie 4 Wainwright fells which are probably the least visited in the Lake District. Grike, Crag Fell and Lank Rigg make a natural circuit but Caw Fell to the east is a bit of an outlier. The main attraction of this walk are the views over Ennerdale which are 4 Rating: Moderate and over 10 miles 9mi Distance: 9 miles / 14.4 km 800m Elevation: 800m / 2624ft
West of Thirlmere Harrop Tarn is the focus for this quiet walk to the west of Thirlmere. The walk includes a climb through woods to a rarely visited tarn. There is also some walking along the quiet shores of the lake itself. The Walk I had never been tempted to walk on the quiet west of Thirlmere. Binsey from Bassenthwaite A short climb of Binsey from Bassenthwaite brings some excellent views towards the Solway Furth to Skiddaw and beyond. The summit area has some interest and may have been the location for an old hill fort. Finsthwaite Heights & High Dam Hidden away near Newby Bridge lies the lovely tarn of High Dam set in woodland and the quiet village of Finsthwaite.
