Mining pot marks the area nearest the caves but now it is only sheep traversing the rough moorland. There are over 500 deer roaming the park which has some lovely rolling countryside, impressive historical buildings and the lovely River Skell to explore. Whernside from Dent The route up Whernside from Dent, the highest mountain in Yorkshire, is in my opinion more enjoyable than that from Ribblehead. Dentdale is lovely and the route brings out more of the mountain’s character. Bentham Heritage Walk High Bentham has some very good views over Ingleborough. The Bentham Heritage Walk starts by crossing the eastern fields and returns alongside the River Wenning. The Walk On arrival at Bentham I was struck by the sign that pointed me in the direction of the Bentham Heritage Walk. Winter Hill Winter Hill is a large area of high moorland lying to the north of Bolton. It is distinguished by its 300m TV aerial serving much of Lancashire but it is so much more than that. Head of Wharfedale The waterfalls at Cray, some lovely riverside walking and the magnificent views down dale are the highlights of a interesting walk at the head of Wharfedale. The Walk Beyond Buckden Wharfedale splits. Heading north the valley climbs steeply over to Wensleydale passing the Cray Waterfalls. Railway Children Walk The Railway Children walk follows the many location where the famous book was filmed. It also discovers the village of Haworth and showcases the industrial heritage of the area. The Moors between Reeth & Redmire Between Reeth in Swaledale and Redmire in Wensleydale lies a large expanse of barren moorland. Previously an area of intensely mined lead workings it is now a similarly large area of grouse moors. The excellent tracks make for speedy walking. Long Preston Deeps Long Preston Deeps is a wetlands project on the River Ribble near Long Preston. The flood plain on the valley floor makes it perfect and the bird life is excellent. The walk continues alongside the River Ribble to Settle. A return via train or over the tops makes for a grand circular. Burnsall Riverside Walk The two villages of Burnsall and Hebden book mark probably the most attractive section of the River Wharfe. The walking is easy, the interest sustained. However the walk is improved by taking in the lovely Hebden Beck and the views across Wharfedale from Hartlington Raikes. Walk at Temple Sowerby Near Penrith is Temple Sowerby, a pleasant small village near Acorn Bank House. The walk at Temple Sowerby follows a winding small river and crosses some countryside before returning to the pretty village. The Walk History enticed me to take a walk at Temple Sowerby. A walk in Upper Nidderdale Upper Nidderdale is a remote part of the Yorkshire Dales. Physically transformed when the reservoirs were built the walk passes over wild moors, through isolated farmsteads. However they are all on excellent tracks. The Walk It was only after living in the Dales for ten years that took a walk in Upper Nidderdale.
