Pennine Way Reservoirs There is a large bleak area of high moorland that marks the Pennine Way between Hebden Bridge and Haworth. On this particular walk there are four reservoirs all with straight forward walking along the banks. The Walk Hebden Water drains towards Hebden Bridge via a number of reservoirs. Footsteps of Tolkein There is little doubt that the area around Stonyhurst College provided some of the inspiration for Lord of the Rings. The walk itself passes the college before heading down to the river, following it back to Hurst Green. Garsdale to Kirkby Stephen walk Take the train along Mallerstang and walk from Garsdale to Kirkby Stephen. There are two options on the walk. The high one goes over Wild Boar Fell, the lower one along the embryonic River Eden. The Walk Remote, wild and exceptionally beautiful and that describes only the lowland route through Mallerstang! The Source of the Eden At the head of Mallerstang lies the Source of the Eden. The walk from Garsdale goes over Blades Bridge and Hell Bridge followed by a search for the river’s source. The return is via the flanks of Turner Hill on the west side of the dale. Ribblehead to Horton via Ingleborough Take the train from Horton and then walk from Ribblehead to Horton via Ingleborough. The path over Park Fell and Simon Fell is rarely used although the descent from Ingleborough to Horton is extremely popular. Bentham Riverside Walk The Bentham riverside walk is a pleasant stroll linking High and Lo Bentham. There are some glimpses of Ingleborough and the countryside is excellent. The Walk High and Low Bentham are neighbouring villages separated by an attractive section of the River Wenning. Limestone Pavements over Orton The limestone pavements over Orton offer a lovely half day walk with good views. Orton itself is an attractive village however it is the beautiful pavements above that are the key to the walk. Fountains Abbey Fountains Abbey is the best preserved abbey in the Yorkshire. This walk goes through the abbey ruins and in to the grounds, exploring them in some detail. Skipton Castle and Woods The walk through Skipton Castle and Woods is a pleasant way to get a feel for the medieval origins of the town without walking to far. Walk in Arkengarthdale Langthwaite is the start of a walk in Arkengarthdale which leads to the pretty hamlet of Whaw. The riverside walking is pleasant, particularly on the east bank of Arkle Beck. The Walk Arkengarthdale is a real find. A pretty valley stretching north from Reeth and squeezed between the bleak moors that characterise much of Swaledale. A walk on Ilkley Moor The Ilkley Moor walk is very popular. Myths and folklore tend to bring people here, as do the famous rocks of the Cow and Calf. As of course does convenience.
