Druid’s Temple at Masham The Druid’s Temple at Masham was a folly built by the local landowner 200 years ago. It is an impressive stone circle. The walk is across pleasant countryside with good views across the area. The Walk There are a number of fine walks near Masham. Leyburn & the Ladies Shawl Leyburn is an attractive Yorkshire Dales market town and a good base to explore Wensleydale. The best of Leyburn is shown though by a walk from the town along ‘The Shawl’ and returning alongside the River Ure. Its tame countryside but full of history, country houses and tranquil scenery. Ingleborough from Clapham The climb of Ingleborough from Clapham is one of the finest walks in the Yorkshire Dales. The ascent is full of interest and the descent takes you through, in my opinion, the finest limestone pavements in England. Settle and the River Ribble There are a number of lovely villages near Settle and the River Ribble. There are also two excellent waterfalls, dramatic limestone scenery and isolated farms on the higher sections of the walk. Gordale Scar and Malham Tarn The classic walk in Malham visits Janet’s Foss, Gordale Scar and Malham Tarn. The walk finishes by climbing down the stone steps alongside Malham Cove, surely the best recognized site in The Yorkshire Dales. The Walk Walking amongst the limestone scenery of the southern Dales is a real pleasure. Austwick and Crummackdale If I was ever asked to name where I believe the Dales landscape at its best then I would describe this walk from Austwick and Crummackdale. It is a geological lesson come alive with simply magnificent limestone scenery throughout. The views to Pen-y-Ghent and Inglebborough are pretty good too. Grimwith Reservoir via Hebden Beck The walk from Grimwith Reservoir via Hebden Beck is full of interest. From the lovely Hebden Beck the walk climbs on to the moors and down to Grimwith Reservoir where the peace and quiet complete a lovely day out. A walk up Great Knoutberry Hill Upper Dentdale and a climb up Great Knoutberry offers one of my favourite walks in the Yorkshire Dales. It combines great views from the lovely summit of Great Knoutberry Hill with the engineering master class of Arten Gill viaduct. 3 Rating: Moderate walk 6.5mi Distance: 6.5 miles / 10.4 km 424m Elevation: 424m / 1391ft
Richmond to Easby Abbey This is a highly enjoyable short walk along the River Swale to Easby Abbey. The route follows the Old Railway to a bridge over the River Swale before returning along a riverside path. Following the walk spend some time in Richmond, its shops, pubs and impressive castle. Beamsley Beacon Beamsley Beacon stands proud over the A59 between Skipton and Harrogate. It is a quiet area considering its proximity to Bolton Abbey. The traditional short walk to the beacon can (and should) be extended to include Round Hill. A Walk in Studley Royal deer park A walk in Studley Royal deer park is a lovely way to spend some time. There are over 500 deer roaming the park which has some lovely rolling countryside, impressive historical buildings and the lovely River Skell to explore.
