History in Gunnerside Gill The history of the Yorkshire Dales and Swaledale in particular can be best seen in Gunnerside Gill. The old workings are prominent on the walk and characterise each step. High Willhays (Dartmoor) High Willhays in Dartmoor is the highest mountain in the south west of England. It lies in some high moorland which can be bleak in bad weather…lovely in good. The Walk Dartmoor had always conjured up images of bleak moorland, high tors, deep marshes and swirling mists. Barden Reservoirs The Barden Reservoirs lie in the centre of a large area of bleak moorland. You would expect the proximity to Skipton, coupled with the easy access to the area, to make the Barden Reservoirs a popular walk. It does not! Dunmoor Hill and Linhope Spout Linhope Spout is a popular shore walk from Hartside. However a much more enjoyable, and admittedly harder option, is to combine Dunmoor Hill and Linhope Spout is one walk of 7 miles. The views from Dunmoor Hill are excellent, dominated by the impressive Hedgehope Hill to the west. Malham Tarn and Littondale Between Malham Tarn and Littondale lies a broad expanse of high moorland covered in limestone outcrops and scars. The villages in Littondale are delightful. Pick up a cup of tea half way! Stony Cove Pike from Kirkstone Pass Kirkstone Pass is a high place to start any walk. A short climb brings you on to the long broad ridge heading for Stony Cove Pike. The return is via the same route. Alnwick to Alnmouth walk The walk from Alnwick to Alnmouth follows the steam railway line, some open countryside before arriving at the coast at Foxton Golf Club. The final mile can either follow the sands or stick to the path through the golf course. A regular bus service will return you to Alnwick. Moel Hebog Above Beddgelert is the steep and over powering slopes of Moel Hebog. The unremitting climb is rewarded with superb views across the western coast and north to the Snowdon massif. The Walk Beddgelert is an attractive village which does not feel dark and hemmed in by the mountains around. Boulsworth Hill and Wycoller Only as a viewpoint does Boulsworth Hill have something to recommend climbing it. However combined with Trawden and in particular Wycoller it becomes the focus of an excellent walk. Sale Fell Bassenthwaite To the west of Bassenthwaite, to the south of the road from Keswick to Cockermouth, is Sale Fell. A pleasant short climb brings you to the open summit of one of the smallest of the Wainwright Fells and excellent views over the rarely visited Wythop valley. The Walk 1,170 ft. Harter Fell Midway between the less visited Duddon Valley and Eskdale is Harter Fell. A rugged, steep sided mountain it stands on its own and is almost, and unusually, impossible to link with other mountains.
