Walk to Hardraw Force The walk to Hardraw Force from Hawes is along the River Ure. The 100 foot waterfall, set in some attractive woodland, make the walk worthwhile. There is a cafe and shop at the entrance to the waterfall (small charge). Moors over Carlton Bank The moors over Carlton Bank offer some excellent walking with views towards the sea and Teesside! The old gliding club and a fine trig point break up this simple walk. Tarn Hows Tarn Hows is a picturesque tarn set amongst an area of attractive woodland situated between Coniston and Ambleside. It is an easy walk to complete and offers a good taste of Lakeland. The Wainstones walk This walk to the Wainstones is made much easier due to a starting point at the car park at Clay Bank. Climb the slopes on to Hasty Bank where a short moorland stroll brings you to the rock formation known as the Wainstones. South Tyne Trail Use the South Tynedale Railway for a short one way along the South Tyne Trail. River and rail enthusiasts will enjoy it most but the scenery around is lovely in the summer months. South Tyne at Garrigill The South Tyne at Garrigill is little more than a stream most of the year. This short walk in remote countryside leaves Garrigill and follows the west bank to Bleagate, returning on the east side. Hidden Treasures of Malham Tarn This walk at Malham Tarn avoids much of the traditional route but includes the short climb to the excellent viewpoint of Great Close Hill. From here the route changes as it passes through some excellent limestone scenery to the north of the tarn. An Alston Discovery walk North of Alston is a lovely walk. The Alston Discovery starts with a walk up the South Tyne. It returns, after a short climb, on the flanks of Grey Nag. Here the views are very good and the solitude complete.
